Study results are available at:

http://dlis.dos.state.fl.us/bld/roi/

The study was completed by The Haas Center for Business Research and Economic Development at the University of West Florida and provides an update to the original 2004 study.

Key Findings of the 2010 Study:

-Florida’s public libraries return $8.32 for every $1.00 invested from all sources.
-For every $3,491 spent on public libraries from public funding sources in Florida, one job (in the economy, not just in libraries) is created.
-For every dollar of public support spent on public libraries in Florida, Gross Regional Product (the value of all goods and services produced in the state) increases by $10.57.
-For every dollar of public support spent on public libraries in Florida, income (wages) increases by $22.97.

The study provides an analysis of return on investment at the state level as well as estimates for individual Florida counties. While the ROI figures vary widely from county to county, they demonstrate how even a small investment yields an extremely high value to the community.

Social value questions were also posed to library users in the study survey. Findings include:

-Library users perceive their local public library as an essential service.
-Over half of library users believe a public library close to their home increases property value.
-Library users prefer a public library on their street compared to other facilities such as a police station, an elementary school, a job center, etc.

The study concludes Florida public libraries offer both perceived and real value to Florida’s citizens.

Library Events through September..

For information on these and any Library programs, please contact
The Bartow Public Library at:
863-534-1031

THE BARTOW PUBLIC LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED FOR INVENTORY FROM
8/9-813

Book Babies
The Bartow Public Library will be continuing its Book Babies program for children under the age of 3 years-old to experience growth through books from
9/9 to 10/28 (THURSDAYS) from 10:30am to 11:00am

3-5 year-old Story Time
Small children ages 3 to 5 years-old may come with an adult and learn from books read to them at the local Bartow Public Library from
9/8-10/27 (WEDNESDAYS) from 10:00am to 10:45am

6-8 year-old Story Time
Children ages 6 to 8 years-old can come with the an adult to enjoy books read by Bartow's Children's Librarian from
9/7 to 10/26 (TUESDAYS) from 3:30pm-4:30pm

Mothers and Daughters can share time and books...
The Mother/Daughter Book Discussion is for Daughters, (ages 9-12), and their Mothers, (ageless), to read the following books and come together for dialog once a month on the following Thursdays, from 4:00pm-5:00pm
8/26: The Saturdays (Elizabeth Enright)
9/23: Caddie Woodlawn (Carol Brink)

Paws to Read
Read to Smiles Unleashed therapy dogs Clifford and Coco every third Saturday, 10:00am-11:00am and receive stickers and a free book.
8/21
9/18

Pix and Popcorn at the Library
Come and see films for free and enjoy refreshments for a small charge on the following Saturdays from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
8/14, Family: IMAX Under the Sea
8/21, Kids: Finding Nemo
8/28, Adults: Clash of the Titans
9/4, Family: Furry Vengeance
9/11, Kids: Diary of a Wimpy
9/18, Adults: Date Night
Please note that movie titles are subject to change.
